Paul Read Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Here. Quite sweet, really. Chris It was originally on at GBP0.99 start but someone must have told him it's valuable (there was a question re the number) and advised him that it was valuable. I think one of the others mentioned was bought by Neil Wayne for a couple of hundred a while back (I could be wrong there).
PeterT Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Here. Quite sweet, really. Chris I've looked at some of his other "for sale" items. At £450, the Town Crier seems better value for money! Regards, Peter.

ben Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 I must have missed something.... is that concertina covered in gold? Golden fungi or golden woodworms??? I will rather wait patiently for 5 years for my Steve Dickinson Wheatstone Anglo Aeola and 3 years for my Colin Dipper Anglo Aeola.
Chris Timson Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 I see the Buy It Now price is on the way down and now stands at £1500. I never thought of using Buy It Now to stage a Dutch auction. Clever. Chris

Pete Dunk Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Here we go again, ebayer rewrites history. Apparently this instrument was made many years before Wheatstone's original patent and a good thirty-odd years before 'Her Majesty' came to the throne. I think it's from the 2nd September 1889; a plain Wheatstone starter box with worn out four fold bellows. Starting price £500! What planet do these people live on?
chris Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi I think this comes under the heading-'a little learning is a dangerous thing' I think people see the name Wheatstone and then £/$ signs roll before their eyes. Sad innit chris
Pete Dunk Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Whilst not quite as outlandish as some offerings, this new listing is perhaps a tad ambitious. It's from one of the usual suspects.
Pete Dunk Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I forget to mention that the original subject of this thread is back on at a starting price of 99p!
Steve_freereeder Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 (edited) I forget to mention that the original subject of this thread is back on at a starting price of 99p! I contacted the seller as I wanted to know about what the concertina looked like inside. He had previously stated that he'd opened it up to check on the serial numbers stamped inside for another inquirer. I was concerned whether or not there were actually reeds in the concertina, seeing as how none of the buttons appear to produce any sound at all. It's not unknown for reeds to be scavenged from old instruments otherwise beyond repair and reused in another instrument as a rebuild. I also mentioned that I thought that £1500 (dropped from £3000!) was considerably over-priced for an instrument of this age, calibre and condition. I was polite in my query, but all I received back was an abusive e-mail from the seller, the main thrust of which was "f***k off tw*t". So I guess that shows the seller up in his true light. I haven't bothered to respond further. Edited October 13, 2007 by Steve_freereeder

Neil Wayne is now in on the bidding for this one, it will be an interesting sale to watch.
Musical Sore Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 The vendor's blurb now says "My main area of expertise is brass". Brass neck, I should think.
chris Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Hi Perhaps it's something about Gloucestershire chris
Pete Dunk Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 The title of this thread has never been more apt. Just look at this! I was quite interested in this item as I need spares for a couple of instruments - but not that much, I went to just over a hundred but would certainly spend no more. Chris must be laughing his socks off.
Dirge Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Put the worst side as the main pic in his advert too!
